A topographic map is a map showing relief. They also show features such as rivers and lakes, and other bodies of water, and man made features such as roads, bridges, and buildings. They are a two-dimensional representation of a three-dimensional object. Topographic maps are different from other maps in that they show both the horizontal and vertical positions of the terrain. This is a topographic map of the state of Vermont.
